McNeil’s Notes
7/24/10Hey Folks: We are off to a fantastic start in the OB band program. The kids are excited and the spirits are high. Here are a couple of things to remind you about for next week: Even though the temps are supposed to be cooler, please take these precautions in precursers to camp: have your child drink 16-20 ounces of water or sports drink at least an hour before practice each day make them eat breakfast, cereal bar is best, no milk, no eggs, etc. have them wear light clothing it might rain - we will practice in it unless lightning, girls wear sports bra, etc. we will break them every 20-25 minutes with a 5-10 minute water/gatorade break make sure they eat within two hours after practice make them sleep!!!! this is highly important when dealing wit heat if anyone has a portable tent, bring it. let's get all of these we can get for shade during breaks bring 11 orders for Corky's butts or the $130 equivelent on Monday morning if your child needs an medical care and we don't have a medical release form, we can't help them bring the medical form and handbook form on Monday (if you havent turned it in) If your child has an issue this week, call us (662-892-6135) but don't allow your child to miss unless you see fit. They will be tired, they will be in pain, but make sure they are here each day unless medical problem. Each day they miss is 8 hours of work that cannot be made up and they will be behind for it the rest of the year. Thanks for your prayers for the young girl who passed out during fresmen camp. She is not out of the woods yet, but even with the broken jaw, 13 stitches in chin, 9 teeth damaged and two huge gashed on her knee, she was still at practice last night. Now that's dedication!!! Thanks in advance for all the parents who are helping with camp, uniforms, etc. Without parents like you, our program would suffer and I want to say thanks. If you would like to get involved, don't hesitate to show up any day you can to help with water, food, etc. Thanks for all that you do, Sid 7/20/10Hey Folks: I've gotten a lot of positive response to the meeting last night and I appreciate you guys as well. We have a great year planned I'm just excited to be a part of it. Here is a recap about the Corky's fundraiser: Make checks payable to: OBHS Band Boosters (which will be the case for all fundraisers) The butts are $28 each The sauce is $3 each The profit for each butt is $12 The profit for each sauce is $1 The forms are due on Monday, July 26 - give to your child to turn in as soon as they get here for camp at 7am. There will be a table set up with parents taking up the forms and money. We will always give a receipt for everything turned in. I will pick the butts up the morning of Wednesday, August 4th. We have practice that day from 12-3 We will begin handing the butts out at 3. Please have them picked up by 4. They are frozen, so must be picked up that day from 3-4 If there is a problem with that, make sure to contact us If you don't sell enough butts to make the $130 profit (11 butts), the remainder is due on Monday, July 26 Example: 5 butts sold = $60 profit, also bring a check or cash for $70 to make up for the difference Kroger Cards: You can purchase the cards anytime during camp. After that, you can get them at the booster meetings. Someone asked me how much you had to put on the card to get the $.10 off per gallon of gas. I don't know, I just know that the wife and I get it for every fill up with the $500 we put on it a month. If anyone knows or finds out, let me know and I'll pass the information along. I just know that this is a great way to raise the funds for your child's fair share without doing anything other than what we enormally do anyway - buy groceries and gas. You may not see the huge difference at first, but over time, it will add up. We also plan to send out an email every month with what each student got put in their account when the statement comes in. Remember that this Thursday and Friday is New Marcher camp from 8-11am. This is for all freshmen and 1st time marchers. We also have hornline practice 6-9pm this Thursday and Friday. This is for everyone except guard and percussion. Once again, I am excited about this year. Thank you for being such great parents and please let me know if there is anything you need. Sid Note: I will usually send an email a week, but with this being the beginning of a new year, I will probably send one every day or so for a while.
